It was not the food that caused Violet to declare "THAT was the greatest family dinner EVER!" The meal itself was simple: BLTs, a grilled cheese for the more picky eater in our family, cut up oranges, applesauce and potato chips. The combination, however, of the chaos and the conversation, turned a simple meal into one worthy of fifteen-year-old acclaim. It might have even been “Facebook worthy.”

I once heard someone say when you have young children at home, it seems like "Long days, but short years." I couldn't agree more with that statement.

I am a working mother of a nearly 6 year old who started Kindergarten this year, and a nearly 3 year old. I am lucky enough to work in the school district my son attends in the technology department so I am right here if he needs anything. I am also going back to school for my Masters in Information Systems online, which is a challenge. I've been with my wonderful husband for 11 years, and married for 7 of those years.

When it comes to my job as a freelance writer, I'd rather stay home and work in my flannel plaid pajamas than get dressed in real clothes and drive to an office where I doodle pictures at boring meetings and sit at my desk during my one-hour lunch break and eat leftover meatloaf out of a Tupperware container.

With my kids’ swim team season officially over, I reveal my true motive for timing their meets: access to free "Officials' Refreshments." While I enjoy obstructed views of the swimmers from my poolside perch, I believe the genuine perk of being a timer is chowing down on free munchies during the mid-meet break. In fact, I'll keep my stopwatch dangling around my neck just so I can stride up to the refreshment table and unabashedly nosh on the spread without looking like a freeloader.

I found that sometimes a TV ban brings siblings together….

"No TV/Computer Monday July 19 through Tuesday July 27!" With this clever ban in effect at my house, I can kill two birds with one stone: sibling warfare and screen addiction (sometimes occurring at the same time). Here's how my parental ingenuity has been faring so far:

Cellphones can be a powerful and an effective tool in communicating to others. Teens know this better than anyone else. For many teens, cellphones are their “lifeline” to their social life. In fact, according to a national survey from CTIA and Harris Interactive,

Nearly half (47%) of US teens say their social life would end or be worsened without their cell phone, and nearly six in 10 (57%) credit their mobile device with improving their life.

My husband forgot our 12th wedding anniversary -- but I'm fine, because I won. Over the years, our wedding anniversaries have evolved into games of Chicken (two drivers careen towards each other on a collision course, waiting for the other to swerve first; one must swerve or both may die in the crash, but the first to swerve is the "chicken"). We wait for the other spouse to say "Happy Anniversary!" (HA!) first in order to see if s/he even remembers the anniversary. If by noontime no one has said anything, then (in a perversion of Chicken) the first spouse to HA!

It's Saturday and I have declared that today will be different. Sure there are diapers to change and clothes to wash, but I WILL do some things that I want to do. I will spend some time praying...talking to God. I will spend some time with my husdand. My girls and I will do something fun together before the sun goes down.

I'm thinking it is time once again to reinvent myself. I am of course a mother and a educator with a Master of Arts in education. I've been a director of corporate training , tutor, and a bank teller. I think now it's time to be a writer.

How many of you have also worn so many hats that you have almost lost count? I know I have. I only listed a few. I forgot to say I am running a small start up business with my husband. He also has a multiple hat issue.
