Let’s face it - moms need girl time as much as our kids need play dates. Even if it’s for a quick weekend, a little time away can do wonders for our energy level, friendships and the circles under our eyes. Here are a few getaway ideas to consider if you’re ready to start planning a little fun and adventure with the girls.
Island Adventure: There’s nothing more exotic than hopping on an airplane to an island and it’s even better when you don’t need a passport to get there - for example, Puerto Rico. Where to stay: San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino sits along Condado Beach and offers easy access to the island’s attractions, shopping and restaurants. Experience: Take a night kayak excursion at Bioluminescent Bay. Get ready to be amazed as your paddle begins glowing with a blue-green light. What appears to be magic is actually microscopic plankton (who knew girlfriend getaways could be fun and educational!). How to relax: Stake claim to a few beach chairs and lounge by the turquoise water for a day of gabbing and a guaranteed tan. Treat yourself: Stop by the Marriott’s outdoor Beach Bar for some of the best Mojitos on the island.
Mountain Getaway: Sometimes a little fresh air is all we need for rejuvenation. And a trip to the mountains, specifically Park City, Utah, will definitely do the trick. Only a short drive from Salt Lake City, this year-round resort is great fun for a winter ski trip or a summer escape. Where to stay: The Sky Lodge is a swanky boutique condominium hotel located in Park City’s historic Old Town. Whether it’s just you and your best friend or the whole mom’s group, choose from one, two and three bedroom suites. Experience: Over the winter months, have fun screaming as you fly down a snow hill
during day or night tubing at Gorgoza Park. Over the summer months, race your girlfriends on one of the four ZipRider lines which are situated 110 feet above the resort's ski runs. How to relax: A girlfriend getaway isn’t complete without a trip to the spa and that’s where the Sky Lodge’s on-property Amatsu comes in. Located on the hotel’s lower level, this spa was inspired by the 800 year old Japanese tradition of Ofuro Baths. Don’t miss unwinding in one of the wooden soaking tubs before your massage. Treat yourself: Visit Sugar Buzz in Old Town to satisfy your sweet tooth. Choose from dozens of candies, but keep in mind that the gourmet cupcakes are especially divine.
Bluegrass Country: The beautiful city of Lexington, Kentucky is known for several things, specifically bluegrass, bourbon and thoroughbreds. Where to stay: Make your home base the Kentucky Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa and while you’re there, plan to stop into The Mansion for fine-dining
experience or simply a glass of wine in the bar. This historic two-story antebellum mansion is located on the grounds of Griffin Gate. Simply walking through the doors is like taking a step back in time. Experience: When you’re ready for a little action, dress in your best and head to the Keenland racetrack for an afternoon of betting excitement and thrills while watching the horses battle for the finish line. How to relax: Take a tour of Kentucky’s famous Bourbon Trail. Each distillery has a distinct charm as well as a story to tell. See the various stages of whisky for yourself and at the end of each tour taste the final product. The best part is deciding which type and brand you favor. Treat yourself: Holly Hill Inn restaurant offers their guests the freshest ingredients available at each meal: lunch, brunch or dinner. While every bite is scrumptious, you will also enjoy dining in the old building situated in a historic country setting. The structure dates back to the early 1800’s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

All three sounds like a great plan. I need a vacation in the worst kind of way!
Thanks for including the mountains of Park City in your girlfriends getaway post. I believe the Vacation Gals have some great memories (err video) of tubing at Gorgoza Park! I am pretty sure it could be one of the best things to do on snow, next to skiing and snowboarding.
Now that the winter season is over, I am going to pack up my bags and head with my girlfriends to Peurto Rico! Thanks for the suggestions.
My YaYa's don't get away every year but at least every other year we plan a weekend. It can be a simple as visiting another one that lives out of town or going to the mountains but it totally recharges us. We are trying to plan one right now for this year but kids schedules seem to be getting in the way. Looks like Fall might be the time.
I do fun, pampering mobile Spa Parties in South Florida, I bring the spa to you!
(massages, spa pedi's & mani's, facials)
I am looking for a yoga retreat or spa that can stay in California for this summer, if anyone knows of a place that they could recommend, I would really appreciate it!
I love the Monterrey/Big Sur area...thanks!!
I totally agree about moms needing to getaway. I am working with a wonderful hybrid mom, Caroline Schafer of the Moms On Vacation travel club and we are planning a cruise conference for mommybloggers going to the Bahamas next year. Caroline offers moms the opportunity to plan vacations together and I am sure would love to work with The Vacation Gals.
