Please tell us more about the business and when you started it.
A friend introduced me to a craft project she called a "Quiet Bag". It was a small pillow filled with junk drawer stuff. Kids peeked through the vinyl window to find all the things inside. After awhile I noticed this craft becoming more and more popular yet, it was not available in stores. I knew if it had become so popular as a handmade craft that it would be even more successful as a cutely designed toy to purchase. And that was the beginning of Peek-a-Boo Stuff, LLC., and the Peek-a-Boo Bag.
I had no idea what I was about to get myself into. I had been doing a Network Marketing Company for about five years. The only thing I felt I had become quite skilled in was picking up the phone. So, with a sample product in hand that's exactly what I did. I made a list of toy stores, called them, and messed it all up over and over until I figured out what to say. Before I knew it I had a few stores place orders before I even knew how I was going to make the product.
After producing product locally and distributing to a few local stores we decided to go to the FAO Schwartz Toy Audition. (sounds fancy...but anyone can show up). While on our New York trip we found investors in line at the airport, a sourcing agent from China sitting next to us, a connection with a factory in China while taking a taxi, another factory contact while having lunch in Little Italy, and received some great press while being there by a company in NY so we paid them a personal visit.
I came home had an appointment with the investment group the next day and the next thing I know I was no longer in Network Marketing but was running a toy company! -Talk to EVERYONE! They will help you build your dream long before you know how. Now after learning more than I expected I would have to, we are now manufacturing in China and distribute to almost 300 specialty retailers. We just launched our newest product the "Everything A to Z Peek-a-Boo Bag". See the Peek-a-Boo Bags at www.PeekaBooStuff.com.
How do you define Hybrid?
Just like a Hybrid car; efficient, resourceful, daring to be different, out to change the world!
Tell us how your "What’s Next?" moment occurred and what did it mean to you.
I had a few "what’s next?" moments. First was when my MLM went from $4,000/mo. to less than $800/mo. I knew I had to do something different. Second was when a friend and I had just finished selling 300 Peek-a-Boo Bags at a Christmas Craft show, that we had hand sewn..."Now What!?" Third is right now. I don't think "What’s Next?" ever stops.
The closest time frame that your 'What’s Next' moment occurred was?
After first child.
What are your biggest challenges?
Wanting to work, but needing to be "mom". Needing to work, but having to be "mom". Working, but wanting to be "mom".
What are your aspirations?
It is important to me that I teach my children by example. I want them to know what it takes to make a dream come true. I want them to know that when you set a goal, you can achieve it with the right attitude and actions. I hope they learn this, not by me telling them, but by watching me accomplish my own dreams.
What are your interests?
I love to work out. I recently decided to train for a Body Building Figure Competition. It's the hardest thing I've done, next to having children. I enjoy friends and I truly have a passion for business and marketing.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by the realization that through simple actions over a long period of time, anything is possible.
