Oh wow! Max is so active! I have seen such a change with him within the last few weeks. He has taken his first few steps, and giggles with glee every time! I enjoy his happiness, but already have a wheeling thought of Max and me in a department store, and running after him because he wants to play hide-n-seek within the clothes racks. I can see his mischievous grin, and red strands of hair falling over his forehead. By the way he is really starting to get hair.
Two weeks ago, he got his fifth ear infection. Sigh. I knew we were headed to the ENT’s office when his pediatrician shook his head and began to write a referral. I know getting tubes is a common procedure, but it wasn’t the procedure I was worried about, but the dreaded “going under.” Aunt Brooke stayed the night before the surgery, which was quite helpful. It was also helpful when we had to wake up at 5am in the morning to arrive at the hospital for a 7am surgery. It’s amazing how unmotivated and sluggish I am at 5am in the morning.
While we waited for the nurse to get us in for prep, Max was extra energetic, squealing in delight while crawled across the freshly waxed floors. His knees kept slipping as I chased him around, which he found this to be quite hilarious, and giggled every time I caught him.
Happy with a stuffed animal and his blanket, he was stylishly dressed in a hospital gown and his diaper; he sat closely to me on the bed. The surgical nurse emerged from the hall and wrapped a big warm blanket around him. I tensed up and looked down at Max. He looked at the nurse, looked at me and then put his head against my side. It is so amazing to me how intuitive children are. She smiled and me and said, “We will take good care of him,” and then whisked him away. AH! I held back tears!
Of course all is well, and again my family’s support is much appreciated. I would love to read about your surgery stories because I need all the input I can get! See you next week!
