So last week I read my first blog and thought wow, I can do that. It's better than shopping on ebay or playing solitaire when your night owl sets in. I have a lot to say and am honest, which of course at times can get me in trouble. For instance, tonight I just returned from a friends “home party." Need I say more? Well yes, I think I must.
The best part of the night was the kicks under the table and the eye rolls across the room. Honestly, who writes the scripts for the sales pitches? I’ve come to some conclusions:
NO, I don't want to make $100 a night pressuring my friends to come to a party and listen why I should buy all the wonderful "new and improved products" that I have already been seeing for years.
NO, I don't want to host a party and get free merchandise that I can buy at Bed, Bath and Beyond with a coupon for half the price.
NO, I don't want to be quiet for two straight hours while each item is presented and demonstrated—believe me, this mom knows how to use a spatula.
And the enthusiasm....don't these women realize:
Why can't they see that? Change it up a bit, go off the script, loosen up and have a drink with the ladies!
Of course in the end you buy some gadget that you will throw in the bottom of your drawer never to be used or seen again. She tells you to take home the catalog and you dutifully write down her e-mail because of course you will need to purchase a pineapple corer again in 6 months!
In the end you write your check, the lady leaves and you have a good time with some friends. And I guess that is why we continue to go despite it all.
Maybe some of you really like these parties...but I suspect after 2 or 3 you probably feel the same as I do. Drop me a line and let me know.
