Do You Have A Few Hours to Teach Underprivileged Kids?
There is a massive shortage of teachers in India. While this affects kids across all school grade levels, K-8 students are most affected. On the macro level, everything points to the usual reasons: overpopulation, low wages for teachers, a growing number of kids. Addressing the situation is much easier said than done.
The Times of India, one of the country’s largest daily newspapers is of the view that citizens need to take the situation into their own lands. The newspaper has teamed up with a group of non governmental organizations to create a social initiative called Teach India. The program brings together children in need of education and people who can contribute a little time towards teaching them.
Simple to follow, Teach India asks that you contribute just two hours of your week to give to teach an underprivileged child for a minimum of three months. The program has amazingly elicited interest from a range of people including businessmen, college students and a vast number of working women and housewives. To me it looks like the perfect solution for helicopter moms!
