THE “MOM’S” NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
BY JENNIFER RAWLINGS
In honor of Christmas I decided to rework a classic that is slightly more realistic than the beloved poem by Clement Clarke Moore. Hope you enjoy my “mom version” . Merry Christmas
THE “MOM’S” NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
BY JENNIFER RAWLINGS
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
the only creature sleeping was Uncle Bob and he’s passed out
The stockings were hung with duct tape and a nail
My husband promised it would look okay..I guess he failed
The children were fighting and acting like brats
I threatened that Santa would take all their gifts back
Grandma had settled into her third glass of “nog”
As I cleaned up the “present” left by our dog
When in the other room there arose such a clatter
the sound of Christmas ornaments being shattered
I ran to the room with such flair and such flash
you would think I had won a medal in the fifty yard dash.
My boys had been wrestling underneath the tree
knocked the whole thing over, including the nativity
I couldn’t believe my eyes “You two have plenty to fear”…
“You both are grounded” I said “ until sometime next year”
“You’re cleaning this up and it better be quick”
“I told you a thousand times to play outside are you heads really that thick?”
More rapid than eagles they picked up the mess
I could tell just by looking ,they were doing their best
“Now go to bed Joshua, Noah and all”
“Go to bed Elijah….Mommy has hit a wall”
As I laid down exhausted and sighing
I thought to myself, how fast time is flying
I rose to my feet and gave my kids a kiss
“I love you so much and that will always persist”
I went back to bed and I heard my kids say
“We love you too mom; we’re real sorry …okay?”
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night
