Twitter, You Bug Me
by Angie Mizzell
I know I’m not supposed to bite the hand that feeds me. But dear Twitter, you’re making me crazy.
I’ll admit, you’ve expanded my network and introduced me to some wonderful people. I’ve met fellow writers and bloggers, connected with authors and agents, and shared witty banter with my new best Tweeps. When I get a new follower, I check out their profile and learn something about them. I’m almost at 300. Not bad, right?
You’re not impressed? Well, at least I have a pretty good handle on who’s who. What does a Tweeter actually do with 20,000 followers? Start a cult? A movement?
You’re a charmer, I’ll give you that. I sit down at the computer, bypass my to-do list, and go straight to you. When I’m out living my life, you’re still on my mind. When my son does something cute, I think, “I should tweet that.” The other night, my husband and I watched the movie The Hangover, and I rushed to my laptop to tell you how funny it was.
When did I stop living in the moment and start tweeting it instead?
A few months ago, I downloaded Tweet Deck. I thought the program would make our relationship less complicated. Now you chirp at me every 5 seconds. New tweets are constantly popping up on my computer screen. “Pay attention to me! Pay attention to me!”
You need to give me some space, learn some boundaries. When did you get so possessive? We fight, we break up. We kiss, we make up. And now that I think about it, it’s probably not all your fault. I’ll take some of the blame. It’s only fair.
It’s worth another shot, don’t you think?
Great. Now that we’re back together, I need to hurry up and finish this post so I can send the link to my Tweeple. Maybe I’ll get some retweets and new followers. I just love getting new followers.
So as I was saying, Twitter, you rock.

Very humorous. Pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about Twitter as well!
As always Angie, you hit the nail right on the head with this one! Love, love, love it!
Twitter, Facebook and most of these social sites are IMO a waste of time. I know I spend way too much time playing around on them when I could be doing something more constructive. The only thing good about them is I have reconnected with some friends I hadn’t seen or heard from since high school.
Thank you for writing what I was thinking. But after my last Twitter breakup, I just haven’t been able to get the magic back again. Now that I think about it, I’m FBing only when I’ve got a new post to share. In short, I am NOT NETWORKING!! Yikes! Excuse me while I go Tweet …something…anything! Just so I don’t feel disconnected.
I don’t know about you ladies, but it seems I’m a bit addicted to blogs, too.
Social networking can be a big time suck, but it’s so fun meeting and interacting with cool chicks like you. That’s always the plus! I think that’s why I keep coming back for more.
