Write Your Own Story. Define Your Own Success.

by Angie Mizzell

Please allow me to reintroduce myself. I’ve been writing for Hybrid Mom for six months now; an opportunity that came my way about a week before my second son was born. Recently, I became an official member of the blog team. My posts will appear each Monday.

I found Hybrid Mom two and half years ago. As I was walking out of Gymboree, I picked up a copy of the print publication. My first son was 17 months old at the time, and I had just sold my half of my marketing company to my business partner.

I wanted to spend more time with son; so much that it compelled me to leave my business.  But now I was navigating this strange new world. I was struck by how lonely I felt, staring at my precious toddler, thinking, “What are we going to do all day?” At the same time, I had another business idea brewing. Now approaching my mid-thirties, I was still searching for work that had a sense of meaning and purpose, still seeking more control over my destiny and my schedule.

The moment I found Hybrid Mom, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. I loved what it represented; how it embraced the woman behind the mom. It spoke to me, in the same way I wanted to use my own voice to inspire others.

So I’ve decided to use my weekly spot on the blog to share pieces of my journey, from TV news reporter on the verge of mental and emotional exhaustion, to the leap of faith that taught me how to be my own boss, to the decision to have children. From the big questions, “What am I supposed to do with my life?” to where I am today: Writer, blogger, and inspirational speaker. Aspiring author, community volunteer, and social networking mamma-jamma. Wife, mom, daughter and friend.

Through my stories I hope to inspire you to create success on your own terms, to embrace your passions and your superpowers, your weaknesses and your limitations. The most important thing I’ve learned along the way: Life is way too short to stress and obsess about doing it perfectly, in the “right” order. We owe it to ourselves to live out loud and carve out our own unique path.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I just found the magazine a few months ago, but I feel exactly the same way. I love the concept. Looking forward to your posts.

Sounds like we’re on similar paths, but you’re a few paces ahead of me! I’m still working on my leap of faith, but am finding strenght from many different sources, including HybridMom.

  3. Hi Angie!
I have enjoyed reading Hybrid Mom for over a year now! I was first introduced to the site when I worked for Anne Gaskell of http://www.SantaSpeaking.com. I wrote for her website and was blessed to be “Elf Ivy” during her busy Christmas season. I have just written and published Yesterday…just yesterday, a unique keepsake autograph book designed to capture the signature and penmanship of a child as he/she grows. I designed my book to be a perfect baby shower gift, gift for new parents, a baptismal gift, or gift for beginning or graduating from pre-school! Yesterday…just yesterday becomes a treasury of those first scribbles of a 2 year old, those first attempts at writing the letters in a name, and the continued perfection of the developing signature of your child. Each year, on a birthday or other chosen date, your child writes his/her name on a designated page. There is also a space on the opposite page for hand tracings, photos, or a drawing to coordinate with the signature. As grade school years turn into high school years, these precious signatures are kept safely in one place: Yesterday…just yesterday! Then, what a great high school graduation gift this treasury becomes…or as a gift when the adult child marries or becomes a parent! My inspiration was finding my own “little girl” signature written in first grade, coupled with how precious my mom’s signature was after her death. Additionally, the signatures of my own little ones, now grown, are treasures filled with memories.
I am hoping that you will be interested in reviewing Yesterday…just yesterday on your site. I will be happy to send you a free copy to keep and review, and would also enjoy being a part of any give-away contest your site has. My book sells for $19.95. You can get a sneak preview of it on my website: http://www.BlueberryIslandPublishing.com .

P.S. Can a grandma still be a Hybrid Mom? I sure hope so :~D

I’m right there with you. A corporate layoff lead me to put my high speed marketing/advertising career on hold. I have since started my own marketing consulting and coaching company. In addition working on a book proposal regarding overcoming personal obstacles, all the while blogging and writing. I have spent more time with my children and have realized what is truly important. I am so glad that there is this community of like-minded women who are so inspiring and supporting. I know that I can have it all on my own terms and not someone elses! To quote Frost..”I took the road less traveled and it has made all the difference”.

All the best to all of my fellow hybrid mommas!
