Book Review: Twilight Series

Twilightseries_2

Stephenie Meyer is the author of my all time favorite book series (Saga),The Twilight Saga and my mom is amazed at how into these books I've become.  Especially, since she has to wait for my oldest sister (Thing One) to finish it, before she gets her chance to read ;o)

Fair Warning: Once you start, this series will be near impossible to put down.

Jonas Brothers: Just a couple Jersey Boys!

Burningup

Jonas Brothers Tour 2008:  Jonas Brother Burning Up Tour Dates

The Jonas Brothers... Bet you've heard  of them, right? Well it's no doubt. Most households with at least ONE female who watches Disney Channel is probably TOTALLY infatuated with Kevin (oldest), Joe (2nd child), and Nick (3rd child) who are taking the USA and Europe by storm.

Our family is no exception to the sensation of JB (Jonas Brothers).

Visits to Jonas Brothers posts on YouTube are daily for me (Joe's HILARIOUS!) Thing Two tears out pictures of any of them and tacks to our walls (who CAN"T fall in love with their hair?!) and Mini-Me, well, she's just about on the verge of complete and utter OBSESSION!

Any chance we get, we're dancing and singing to the words of any of their songs (unfortunately we don't have all the albums...Thank HEAVENS for YouTube!) and are occasionally popping into the fan sites to see what other writers have found out.

And I was extremely surprised and overjoyed while reading about them to discover that they're JERSEY BOYZ!

That means that the amazing group was born in the same state as me! Alright, I'll admit, I sound a wee bit crazy/weird right there. I just can't get over how down-to-earth, funny, and sweet they are from what I've seen.

Of course I haven't had the pleasure of meeting them in person yet (hint-hint).

*SIGH*

Well, I guess for now I'll  stick to posters, YouTube, and my portraits...OH! I didn't mention that I draw their faces in my sketchbook all the time! Well now you know! ;)

Thursday Thirteen: Sweet Summer Sensations!

Thursdaythirteengreen

There are so many awesome things I love about summer - maybe enough to right a whole book! This week's Thursday Thirteen is all about the totally sweet sensations of summer:

1. No more school! (Except for those who get Summer school...) Kids slave away for 180 days a year for, what? Twelve years?! We deserve a BREAK!

2. Friends are the key to a totally SWEET! summer!During school, I can only get together with my friends on the weekends because of all the homework loads!Which brings us to #3!!

3. NO HOMEWORK! During the summer, kids are free to run around from morning 'til night, with absolutely NO interruptions!

4.
Pool time! During the summer, I'm like a fish! I'm basically swimming 24/7! I'm soooooo lucky to have a pool in my back yard!

5.
My family spends a lot of time at the beach during Summer Vacation! Tanning, swimming, chasing seagulls...yep, that's the life!!

6.
Vacation! Every summer, my family and I pack up and head down the shore line to sunny, beautiful and awesome CAPE MAY, NJ!! There is always something to do down at the Cape! I don't think I've ever been bored down there, EVER!!

7.
Sleeping in! No more waking up at 6 am! I'm free to sleep to my heart's content! This morning, I slept 'til 11:30! That's not my record, but it's close! (Gotta get past 2 pm next time.)

8.
Shopping! I am a SHOP-A-HOLIC! It should be considered a sport the way I see it! What do you think I do with my free time??!!

9.
The heat! I hate cold weather, absolutely DESPISE it!! I love the weather anywhere from 85 to 102 degrees! (Except when it's humid, yuck!)

10.
The sounds of summer keep me going! I love the sound of birds chirping, cicadas humming, and the bees that are buzzing!

11.
BBQ's with the family are awesome! Here's the typical This Full House BBQ: Hot Dogs, Burgers, Ribs, Chicken, Corn on the Cob, Soda, Water, Lemonade, Iced Tea, Macaroni Salad, Fruit Salad, Veggie Salad, and for dessert...SMORES! (Yes, my mom makes all this!!)

12.
Here are three words I couldn't live without: Root Beer Float! The core of my existence! Vanilla, root beer goodness that tickles my taste buds and sends shivers down my spine! My Dad makes them better than Stewart's does!! (Now that's saying something!!)

13.
Last, but most definitely not least (Drum roll, please!)...ALL THE SUNNY DAYS!! I think almost 90% of all the days during the summer are SUPER SUNNY!

Well, since my work here is done, I'm gonna go put on my swimsuit, grab my 'shades' and soak up some Vitamin D! (Yes Mom, of course after putting on sun screen)

BYE!

This Full House Gives Back: Cuss, it's for a good cause!

Woman_censored

I have a potty mouth.  No, it's NOT a very proud statement.  Is it?  Anyhow, once I became a mom - wow...has it been 14 years, already? - I tried really hard NOT to swear, especially around the kids.

They have this terrible habit of repeating things, you know?

So, as my children got older and their understanding the improper use of vocabulary got bigger, I started a "potty-mouth" jar.  The kids paid 25 cents for each swear word and a dollar was donated for each time one slipped passed mom (or pop) and, let me tell you, I practically paid for our family vacation to Cape May, last year!

Today, we were able to make a rather large donation - with the help of my blogging friends - and I AM PROUD to say that I'm in pretty good company!

Summer Vacation - Day 1: Dolphins, Sharks, and Taffy! OH MY!

Sandandsneakers_4

Hey! Guess what? It's Summer Vacation! FINALLY!

OK parents, I know what you're thinking: Great, now my kids will be running around like wild animals while I'm trying to finish work around the house! Just what I need....

But, seriously, we're not that bad...as a matter of fact, we're not even home half the time! We're either at the beach, in the pool or sprinkler, outside, hanging with friends, or sleeping!!

I slept in 'till 10:00 this morning!!! And I usually don't need much sleep...

In school yesterday, we did absolutely NOTHING! Except, we watched JAWS...I had the choice to leave the room and go watch some other movie, but NOOOOO...I stayed. BAD IDEA!!

JAWS was one of the goriest movies I've EVER seen! My friend and I were huddled close together, and had our heads down on the desk. I almost hurled about ten times! I swear, I was hitting myself after class for watching that gore-fest!

Oh, and I had a nightmare last night that I was the shark hunter dude, and I slid down the ship into JAWS' mouth and CRUNCH! What a way to spend the first summer night of the year, huh?

Well...I won't have to worry about mutant sharks because they just played up the story of the shark attacks in the early 1900s! The 25 foot shark isn't even real! In fact, that's the story the creators of JAWS got their kick-start from! Cool, NJ is even more famous!

My family and I are going to Cape May, NJ in July! Cape May is one of the most beautiful areas in America if you ask me! I wonder if there are any mutant sharks there...? NAH! Just cute 'lil dolphins! The jumps that the dolphins entertain the beaches with are beautiful! I'll try to get a few pictures of that! It's absolutely amazing! The houses are gorgeous Victorian homes, inns, and restaurants. Cape May offers the BEST salt water taffy! I could eat it all day, I swear!

If you need me, I'll be catching some rays! HAVE AN AWESOME SUMMER! L8r!!

Happy Love Thursday, everyone!

It works for me - how about you?

This Full House Kids: Giving Back

Thisfullhouseliz_3 Hello, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Elizabeth Thompson (but, you can call me Liz) and I am the owner and keeper of ThisFullHouse.

This Full House Kids is our family blog project and it's where I give ALL four of my children the permission to "talk back!"

But, you can read more about that here.

My husband Garth (not his real name) and I are trying to raise our kids to be responsible and caring adults who love and respect each other, as well as care for the world and the people around them.

Riiiiiight!

If you are a parent (like me) then, you know, it isn't always easy.  In fact, considering the negative influences being projected in nearly every venue of mass media, there isn't a day that goes by when I'm NOT trying to explain away something, or throw my hands up in total denial.

Just, don't do what he, she, or they did...m'kay?

So, yeah, I'd love to teach them about something positive - for a change - and this is where you (yes, YOU!) as a part of the-ever-loving-blogging-community, can help.

How?

By joining us in our campaign to raise money for our local Ronald McDonald House.

Ronaldmcdonaldhouse_3

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Branch provides a “home away from home” for the families of seriously ill children undergoing medical treatment at area hospitals.

So, how IS it that you (yes, YOU!) can help, again?

Just "click on" the button (on the left sidebar) that reads "Ronald McDonald House" and it will redirect you to a new window, allowing you to make a donation (if you wish) and then onto our PayPal page to complete your donation.

[Edited to add:  Of course, PayPal is down for maintenance as of 5/21/08, go figure!]

This is the ONLY time that you'll find any solicitations from us at thisfullhouse.com and ALL donations to This Full House Kids will be made to The Ronald McDonald House in Longbranch, NJ through their Adopt-A-Family Program:

Adopt-A-Family: Although it actually costs the Ronald McDonald House $50 per night, we only ask families for a $10 a night donation for their stay at the House. The Ronald McDonald House never turns away a family based upon their inability to pay. Instead we roll up our sleeves and raise a few more dollars to cover our expenses. One way that we do that is through our Adopt-A-Family program.

I am in the process of working up a "total raised" widget and will post it, as soon as I figure out...you know...how to post it, along with receipts of "payment to Ronald McDonald House."

[5/22/08 Edited to Add:  Click here to read about our "test donation"]

In the meantime, I hope that you've enjoyed my kids' writing (yep, I am one proud momma) and please know that my kids and I truly appreciate that you stopped by - you ARE truly welcome, anytime - and THANK YOU so much for your time and support!
