Q: My four-year-old daughter loves playing with a little girl down the street. They are best friends, but the child’s mother is really cold to me. How do I encourage my child’s social interaction without getting frostbite from the Ice Queen?
A: Every neighbor has its resident Ice Queen. Unfortunately, your child has decided to pal around with her offspring. You can’t control this mom’s frostiness, but you can decide how much time you want to spend with her directly.
Now might be a good time to nurture your daughter’s telephone skills so you can minimize direct, painful communication with her. We are baffled why this woman doesn’t respond to what we’re sure is unlimited charm on your part. She might not be getting enough attention from hubby (be sure to read “Sex on a Schedule” in our summer/fall issue and pin it to her door) or maybe she does honestly think she’s better than you. If that is the case, then do what Garth Brooks did (which made him a multi-millionaire in the process): stick with your friends in low places and be proud of it.
Ice Queen can just melt her icecaps in that hot spot down below.
