The whole family can enjoy a visit to a farmer's market or you U-Pick
It produce farm. You can pick everything from corn and tomatoes to
blueberries and strawberries. Many farms encourage bringing children
and include petting zoos and playgrounds. Once you get home get the
kids in the kitchen to help make an interesting dish with your new
veggies and fruits.

Ben clenched his fingers around Sophia’s chunky little arm, “I’m going to count to five,” he told her, “and you’re going to take a deep breath and give that toy back to me.” Not exactly what I had in mind when I promised myself upon Ben’s birth that I would lead by example.

It's a bizarre dynamic. There isn't a woman alive who doesn't wish she
had more help with her kids. Yet every time we hire anyone to assist
with our 24/7 mom job, we feel guilty, often resenting and criticizing
the very person we're paying to make our lives easier.

"I wish you'd known me before I was so flaky." This was how a
conversation began recently with a new mom friend of mine. We went on
to exchange a flurry of apologies as we rescheduled a coffee date for
the probably the fifth time in two months. Somehow, she lamented to me,
motherhood had unleashed her inner flake.

When my son was 21 months old, we started toilet training with the firm
belief that he’d be on his way to becoming a potty champion in a couple
of weeks. He seemed ready. He was uncomfortable in dirty diapers and wanted them
to be changed immediately. He announced when he needed to go and used
different words for peeing and pooping.

It is one thing to care for a sick baby. Even two babies, plus a husband I can handle. But when I found myself suddenly dashing for the ladies' room as I tried to conceal my distress from my twin two-year-olds, I was facing an all together new kind of challenge. What happens when the caregiver is so sick she can't care for anyone else, let alone herself? Of course, I am speaking about temporary incapacitation.
