A new article published in the Journal of Marketing Research says the best way to entice potential customers is through a two-step approach: First tout the benefits of your product and then focus on its practical aspects.

"Consumers have different concerns when they first hear about a new product compared to the time when they consider buying it," says Mita Sujan, Tulane assistant marketing professor. "The key to a successful marketing plan is to shift the message to target these separate concerns."
