maquelchristopher.jpgPlease tell us more about the business and when you started it.

I am a work-at-home mother who has spent the last year taking classes, designing, and producing sterling silver jewelry that can be worn by every member of the family. My work has finally paid off and I am proud to announce that www.emmiekate.com is live!

The idea behind Emmie Kate was inspired by one of my most precious creations, my daughter Kate and her cousin and best friend Emmie. Born just a few weeks apart, they have grown up together and delighted me with their adorable connection and attachment to each other. It was while searching for quality, safe, and fashionable jewelry for Kate (and finding very little to choose from) that I came up with the concept to craft jewelry myself that was as solid, lasting and beautiful as the bond shared between the two girls. I started with personalized bracelets for Kate and Emmie and the girls adored them.

All Emmie Kate jewelry is made from sterling silver and many of our bracelets can be personalized with your child's name, a symbol, or favorite phrase. The baby bracelets are priceless to look back on years later--a sweet reminder of how tiny they once were. Our unique bracelets also make memorable mother/daughter sets and gifts for friends and family. We also feature jewelry and accessories from many other talented silversmiths across the country - unique items which can be personalized with monograms, names, phrases or even photographs.

Emmie Kate has become the hub for shoppers looking for quality, fashionable, hand-made sterling silver jewelry. Our jewelry is already being worn by stars such as Tori Spelling and Camilla Alves.

How do you define Hybrid?

"Wonder Woman". A Hybrid mom is someone who can do it all: be a mother and have a successful career.

Tell us how your "What’s Next" moment occurred and what did it mean to you.

My What’s Now moment occurred a year ago, when I divorced my husband after eight years of marriage. He had always made a lot of money and I hadn't worked since graduating from college. I had given birth to two children and adopted a third and had always been there with them. I couldn't imagine leaving them in daycare, so I worked with what I had. I have managed to use my business education to start Emmie Kate, which is quickly gaining success and, hopefully, will soon be able to support our family.

The closest time frame that your 'What’s Next' moment occurred was?

After my divorce

If you have not acted upon your 'What’s Next' thoughts, what has been stopping you?

I wish I had acted sooner. I was always so scared I wouldn't succeed or my husband would look down upon my company. Running Emmie Kate from home brings me so much joy.

What are your biggest challenges?

My biggest challenge is balancing work hours with three young kids. I don't want to miss any of their important moments, yet I also want to provide my customers efficient service.

What are your aspirations?

My aspirations are to continue a great relationship with my children and to establish a very successful company which supports us financially. I would love for my children to become involved one day. I especially want to show my daughter that being a mom doesn't mean giving up your own goals.

What are your interests?

I love spending time with my kids. I love silversmithing. I like almost any type of craft such as knitting and sewing.

What inspires you?

I am most inspired by relationships. My family relationships (mother/child, siblings) and friendships are my inspiration.

Hybrid Stories: Catherine (KK) Patton
catherpatton100.jpgIn July 2002, one year after I was diagnosed with diabetes, I filed for a patent on the i-port®. I had tried and struggled with both traditional injection therapy and the insulin pump. Even though I have never been a person who was scared of needles, after several months of taking multiple daily injections, I began to seek out ways to make my treatment regimen less invasive. I began to dread mealtimes and the next injection.
